きょうもマウスピース研究。
ついにVandorenのジャズ用マウスピースA5S+を入手。
いままでVandorenはクラシック用ばかりだったw
A5S+はV16の最狭T.O.(ティップオープニング)の1.88mmでスモールチェンバー。
AL5の1.68mmに比べたら開き大きいので、リードはZZの2・1/2。
AL5用にネックコルクを張り替えたばかりの僕の楽器にはゆるゆるだったが紙を挟み固定するとスイスイ良い気持ち。
メイヤーで育ってきた僕にはとても扱いやすかった。
エッジは立つものの吹き方によって柔らかくもなる。マーク6などのヴィンテージ楽器に付けたらどうなるかわからないけど、現行楽器(82Z,62など)に付けたらとても良いバランスになると思う。
A5S+を勧めてくれた先輩に感謝です。
同じオープニングでミディアムチェンバーのA5Mも吹いた。印象は悪くないが、なんか疲れそうな感じ。
あとMeyer4MMというのを持っていたので吹いてみた。
そう、いまハマってるのはこのくらいのT.O.(1.67mm)だ！
でもスモールチェンバーの感覚に身体と耳が慣れてしまっているのでミディアムチェンバーのこれはとても惜しいという感覚。。

そしてリフェイス済みのAL5とは別にもう一本AL5を仕入れたのでこちらをどのようにリフェイスしてもらうか検討する。
MC Gregory 4A16(T.O≒1.7mm、ミディアムフェイシング、スモールチェンバー)と比べっこ。
違いは以下の点だった。
・バッフル、ウォールの形状
4A16は細いティップレールからいきなりえぐれており、極度のローバッフル。ウォールも含め円筒状にえぐれている。
AL5のバッフル部分はまだ厚みがあるから削ってもらう？独特なウォールは残す？どーしよー。
・ビーク
AL5の方が長いが、角度はほぼ同じ。
・シャンク
一番下に金属リングがあるMCはなんとなくかっこいいよね。→シャンクの違いについてはまだ考察が行き届いておりません(^_^;)

この4A16は僕の楽器に付けたら独特の良い音がするので今使えば良いかも知れないけど、それはやらない。
こいつに惚れ切ってしまったら代わりになるモノがないから。
現行楽器にマッチしつつ次の世代のMC Gregory的なモノはどういう形状が良いのか、そこを現行マウスピースをリフェイスすることによって作り出すのが目標です。

今後は、
A5S+のT.O.を狭くしてバッフルもリフェイスしてもらう？
AL5の特殊感を残しつつさらにリフェイスしてもらう？

とりあえずスモールチェンバーで考えてみるのがよさそうです。はい。

I finally got a Vandoren jazz mouthpiece A5S+.
Until now, Vandoren was only for classical music w
A5S+ has a small chamber with the narrowest T.O.
Compared to 1.68mm of AL5, the lead is 2.1/2 of ZZ because the opening is larger.
The neck cork for my AL5 was just replaced, so it was a little loose, but when I held the paper in place, it felt great.
Having grown up in Mayer, it was very easy to handle.
Although the edge is standing, it can be softened depending on how it is blown. I don’t know what will happen if I put it on a vintage instrument such as the Mark 6, but I think it will be very well balanced if I put it on a modern instrument (82Z, 62, etc.).
I am grateful to my senior who recommended A5S+.
At the same opening, I also played a medium chamber A5M. The impression is not bad, but I feel like I’m tired.
Also, I had a Mayer 4MM, so I played it.
Yes, I’m addicted to this T.O. (1.67mm) now!
However, my body and ears have become accustomed to the feeling of a small chamber, so I feel that the medium chamber is very regrettable. .
In addition to the refaced AL5, I purchased another AL5, so I’m considering how to reface it.
Compared to MC Gregory 4A16 (T.O≒1.7mm, medium facing, small chamber).
The differences were as follows.
・Baffle and wall shape
4A16 is suddenly scooped out from the thin tip rail and has an extremely low baffle. It is hollowed out in a cylindrical shape, including the wall.
The baffle part of AL5 is still thick, so can you shave it off? Leave a unique wall? What should I do?
・Beak
AL5 is longer, but the angle is almost the same.
・Shank
The MC with the metal ring at the bottom is somehow cool. →The differences in the shanks have not yet been carefully considered (^ _ ^;)
This 4A16 has a unique and good sound when attached to my instrument, so it may be good to use it now, but I won’t do it.
Because if you fall in love with this guy, there’s nothing you can replace him with.
My goal is to reface the current mouthpiece to find out what kind of shape the next generation MC Gregory style would look like while matching the current instrument.
From now on,
Do you want the A5S+ to have a narrower T.O. and reface the baffle?
Would you like to have it refaced while retaining the special feeling of AL5?
For the time being, it seems good to think about it in a small chamber. yes.
